John Girardeau With Quarter Horse - Operation Silver City - 1966

These slides are from the time I spent with B Troop 1/4 Cavalry during Operation Silver City. We had gone to the field in mid February, 1966, and did not return to Phouc Vinh until early April. The Battle of Tan Binh was on February 23-24.    (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Suoi_Bong_Trang)

From there we rolled into Operation Silver City which ran from March 7 through March 24.    (http://www.vhpa.org/KIA/panel/battle/66030900.HTM)

After Silver City, we spent a week or so guarding Engineers operating Rome Plows north of Long Binh.

B Troop started with 9 M-48 tanks, 21 M-113 APC’s and about 120 men. During this time, we lost 2 tanks, several APC’s and took ~50% casualties including several deaths. My Recon Sgt, Sgt Maidai, was wounded by a 60mm mortar shell fragment.
