I was in the Meteorology Section next to you. We were the guys that sent up the weather balloons and tracked them with radar. We ate in your mess hall and drank in your clubs. We provided the weather data for your guns. I can still hear those 175's and 8 inch guns going off at night.

Just found this site. Our unit (322nd) left Ft. Benning Jul 68 to take over ATC duties at Quan Loi. We ate at the Arty mess hall with the 175s and 8 inch guns playing in the background. Man, what a dust bowl or mud hole depending on the weather. Got pictures of me in the pool. May have a picture of a 175 that blew the barrel apart during one of our lunches. Didn't get to know many of the guys. I was the tower chief at that time and worked a lot of tower time. I remember the C-130 photo that took a hit and remained for repair. Talk about a mortor target. Welcome back folks. Jer

I have been searching the internet for a long time for any information pertaining to the Quan Loi Base camp and I just came across your site. Outstanding and it brings back a lot of memories both good and bad. I was there with HHT 1/11th Squadron Maintenance when I wasn't out busting jungle to retreive a tank or APC that was in a bad way that is. I'm 54 years old now and have a bad case of CRS disease but I would like to chat with anyone who remembers our tents being on the back side of the perimeter by the fuel blatters, there was also a supply point on the right side of the road. Many Thanks Dan Perry

I used your facilities(pool, chow hall, dentist)thanks for the memories. My recollection of the pool does not match the pictures posted exactly but that could be a function of the years gone by. We had to sneak in at night to get a chance to jump off the top of the staircase where the diving board had been removed. The water felt great.

Great website fellows! I was an FDC-FADAC operator in '69 & '70 with A-Btry 2nd/13th (105MM) rear based in Phu Loi. We would take 3 of our 105's and combine them with 3 155's out of our sister unit "B" Btry 2/13th to make up a new unit called "D" Btry 2/13th. With 3-105's & 3-155's slung under Chinook chopters (or inside C-130's) we'd fly out in support of the 3rd & 5th Mobile Strike Forces- 5th Special Forces to all the various firebases they occupied in the III Corp(Phuoc Vinh, Duc Phong, Hung, Bu Dop, etc). In Spring of '70, these arty units went home, but I re-assigned as a FADAC operator to B-Btry 6/27th rear based in Song Be (8"-175MM SP's). This unit convoyed out to various firebases and was involved in the big push into Cambodia in late April-early May of 1970. Best wishes to all the arty vets of Vietnam. We WON the battles; the war was lost at HOME!

Got in some action on May 1967 while at Quan Loi. The big firefight with the 173rd NVA. I was there reparing sone of our equipment. We were located not to far from the 8" Guns. Kind of real close to the Frenchmans house. The broke in the perimeter, and we had to bury the VC, and do a "police call" to put bodies on display for the 5th SF to see the effects of the Quad 50's. The Engineers were sent in for Infantry Support of the perimeter hot spot areas. Long time ago. Glad most of us made it!
